Sacramento's Love Affair with Zinfandel
Sacramento is fast becoming one of the most popular wine growing areas in the United States (wine drinking, too) and there's one common denominator between the different AVAs - we all specialize in Zinfandel. When you visit a Sacramento winery, be sure to ask for their Reserve Zin; you'll be glad you did.

Due to the favorable nature of the climate and soil, Placer wineries produce a diverse array of varieties, especially those of Italian, Iberian and the Rhône region in southern France. While one might guess Zinfandel, Syrah or Barbera to be Placer’s signature varietal, Sangiovese, Viognier, Grenache, Mourvedre, Petite Sirah, Malbec and Tempranillo are planted in smaller blocks from Loomis to Auburn and are becoming more prominent in our tasting rooms.
Known for its incredibly rich soil, warm days and mild Delta breezes, the wine country of Yolo County yields unforgettable wines of great character and diversity. Here you’ll find outstanding Syrah, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon, but also lesser-grown varietals such as Viognier, Malbec, Primitivo, and Albarino, plus Sparkling and Port. Virtually all of our wineries are family owned and operated—some for multiple generations—guaranteeing you an intimate experience with highly knowledgeable artisans. You’re sure to find something memorable, and affordable, to suit your tastes.
